Jana Bauch lives in Cologne. She does photography and film, focussed on documentary. She loves to do portraits of society and subcultures in their personal environment. By getting insights in diverse realities of life, she searches for moments that move. Power and Chaos. Authenticity and the courage to experiment. Nature, width and freedom. Tough and fragile at once, in her visual language she creates an individual feminine character. 

In 2022 she finished her Master Degree at University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf/Peter Behrens School of Arts. With her Master Project Y-Topia she got awarded by Museum Folkwang and Wüstenrot Stiftung in documentary photography. Y-Topia documents the protest of activists at opencast mine Garzweiler II, who fight for climate justice and a solidarity world. The project is exhibited from 2023-2025 at Museum Folkwang Essen, Haus am Kleist Park Berlin, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart and Museum für Fotografie Braunschweig. Y-Topia also includes a video documentary. „On fire“ celebrates its cinema premiere in April 2024 at the International Women’s Film Festival Cologne/Dortmund and got awarded with the honoring mention in the national competition for women directors of photography.

Besides freelancing, Jana Bauch started doing photography and visual language conception at University of Cologne in 2023. She worked as a photojournalist for Rheinische Post. Her photography was published in Stern and several other media via DPA.
