Jana Bauch is a photographer based in Cologne. In her personal work she loves to focus on documenting society and subcultures in their personal environment.
She gains to get intimate insights in the foreign world of her protagonists. It is her aim to create a tough and sensitive look at once, expressing being feminine. Movement and activism. Authenticity and the courage to experiment. Nature, width and freedom. Absurdity and irritation. Power and Chaos.
In 2022 she finished her Master Degree at University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf/Peter Behrens School of Arts. With her Master Project Y-Topia she got awarded by Museum Folkwang and Wüstenrot Stiftung in documentary photography. In her photo and film project she documents the protest of activists at opencast mine Garzweiler II who fight for climate justice and against capitalist exploitation. The project will be exhibited at several places from 2023-2025 and travels from Museum Folkwang Essen to Haus am Kleist Park Berlin to Staatsgalerie Stuttgart and to Museum für Fotografie Braunschweig.
Since 2023 she works at University of Cologne doing photography and visual language conception. Before she worked as a photojournalist for Rheinische Post. Her photography was published via Deutsche Presse Agentur in several media like New York Times, Stern, Die Zeit, Süddeutsche Zeitung and ZDF.
